On Nov. 3, City of Hancock voters will have the opportunity to vote on the renewal of the city’s recreation millage in the general election. The recreation millage provides funding for recreational improvements including parks, trails, and other public recreation facilities all owned by the City of Hancock.
The Hancock Trails Club works closely with the city to maintain and improve the local trail systems. The city’s recreation funding is an important resource for projects that benefit trail users and the broader community. The Nov. 3 proposal intends to renew the existing recreation millage for another five years, from 2027 through 2031, with a proposed millage rate of 0.8 mills.
If renewed, the millage would continue providing a dedicated source of funding for recreation projects in the area. If it is not renewed, that dedicated funding source would expire after its current authorization, which would limit what Hancock can allocate money to in terms of recreation amenities.
