College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team completed a weekend sweep of 14th-ranked Minnesota with a 3-1 victory yesterday afternoon. Conner Roulette’s second-period goal broke a scoreless tie. Teydon Trembecky’s goal with less than three minutes remaining in the third period was the game-winner, and Matthew Van Blaricom sealed the win with a late empty-netter. Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 29 saves.
College Soccer
The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team fell to Northern Michigan 4-0 yesterday.
A penalty-kick goal by Luca Rosen in the 80th minute gave the NMU men’s team a 1-0 victory over Parkside yesterday.
MLB
In National League Divisional playoff series games yesterday…
- The Braves edged the Dodgers 3-2. That series is tied 1-1, and continues tomorrow in Atlanta.
- Jackson Chourio’s two-run single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Brewers to a 4-3 win over the Padres. Christian Yelich slid under the catcher’s tag on the throw from center field to give Milwaukee a 2-0 lead in that set, which resumes tomorrow in San Diego.
The American League series pick up again tonight…
The White Sox play at Cleveland at 5:00. Anthony Kay will start against Gavin Williams. Chicago leads that series 1-0.
The Rays host the Yankees at 8:00. Cam Schlittler will pitch against Freddy Peralta. Tampa Bay has a 1-0 lead in that set.
NHL
The Red Wings dropped a 3-2 decision to the Jets yesterday. Detroit fell behind 3-0 before late goals by Viktor Arvidsson and Emmitt Finnie narrowed the gap. John Gibson made 24 saves.
The Wings entertain the Senators tomorrow.
NBA
The Pistons open their preseason campaign at home against the Suns tonight.
The Bucks welcome the Timberwolves this evening.
NFL
Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes as the Packers held off the Buccaneers 17-14 yesterday. The win was costly, as linebacker Edgerrin Cooper left during the third quarter with what is reported to be an Achilles tendon tear. That would likely end his season.
The Lions lost 32-26 to the Panthers in last night’s contest. Jared Goff threw for 412 yards and a touchdown, but Jhamyr Gibbs was held to just 46 yards rushing, with one score. Jake Bates kicked four field goals.
The Falcons visit the Saints for tonight’s contest.
