Hitting the trails is more enjoyable with friends, and even better when traversing paths you’ve helped maintain. Mi-Trail, a volunteer-driven organization, invites outdoor enthusiasts to join its mission of preserving nearly 600 miles of hiking, equestrian, non-motorized and motorized trails across Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula.
Over many years, Mi-Trail has attracted dedicated members who have become integral to the organization’s success. The group now seeks to expand its leadership team, actively recruiting an organized individual to serve as secretary and capture meeting minutes.
Throughout summer and fall, Mi-Trail hosts social events designed to introduce new members to the organization’s work while building community among trail users. Upcoming opportunities include Labor Day maintenance weekend, a fall trail ride experience and regular September meetings.
These events offer ideal chances to meet organizational leaders, learn about trail maintenance efforts and connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts who share a passion for preserving the region’s natural spaces. The Fall Color Tour ORV Ride for seniors will meet at Krupp’s Mini Mart on September 24th. MI-Trale carefully plans the event each year so seniors can take in the beauty of the region’s color change at just the right time. Events such as the ORV ride, the recent Adopt-a-Highway clean up, and regular trail maintenance requires coordination between members. Members will often decide on details of those events and projects well in advance during regular meetings at the Stannard Township Hall or on zoom once a month.
Whether attending a maintenance day, trail ride or monthly meeting, new members can discover how their contributions directly impact the trails they love to explore.
