The Michigan Trails and Recreation Alliance of Land and the Environment has received a $7,500 grant from the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative to expand trail monitoring across the region.
The funding will support nine new trail counters positioned along more than 300 miles of public DNR-designated trails that MITRALE manages. Additional counters will be deployed as temporary “floaters” to capture detailed visitation patterns throughout the area.
MITRALE has used trail counters for nearly a decade to gather data on trail usage. The new equipment will help the organization analyze traffic patterns for hikers, horseback riders, motorized trail users and others.
The grant represents the organization’s continued commitment to understanding how the region’s trails serve the community and managing resources effectively.
