State Rep. Greg Markkanen this week led the Michigan House of Representative in adopting a resolution recognizing the memory of former state Rep. Mike Lahti, who also represented the Western portion of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Lahti was a devoted public servant, a successful businessman, and a proud family man who served as state representatives for the Western U.P. from 2007 to 2011.
“From his early days growing up in Hancock to opening his State Farm agency and helping develop his community, Mike built a legacy rooted in hard work, integrity, and service,” said Markkanen, R-Hancock. “He gave back in countless ways – serving on local boards, contributing to regional development, and representing his neighbors with distinction at every level. During his time in the Michigan House, he earned a reputation as one of the most hardworking members of this body, always putting his constituents first and making the long drive home each week to stay connected to the people he served.”
Markkanen was joined on the House floor by Lahti’s surviving family, including his wife, Sharon.
