High School
Five local teams will look to continue their seasons in regional play tomorrow.
In softball…
- Division Four at the Bone Yard in Lake Linden – L’Anse will face Superior Central in the first semifinal at noon, and Hancock will take on Norway in the second semifinal at 2:00. The championship game will be played at 4:00. We’ll broadcast Hancock’s semifinal game on 97.7 The Wolf, along with the championship game if either Hancock or L’Anse advances.
- Division Three at Cheboygan – Gladstone will play Traverse City St. Francis at 10:00 in the first semifinal, and Calumet will meet Boyne City in the second at noon. The championship game will begin at 2:00. Calumet’s semifinal game will be broadcast on KBear 102.3, along with the championship game if the Copper Kings advance.
In baseball…
- Division Four at Rudyard – Jeffers will face Mio in the Region 25 final at 10:00, and Norway will take on Hillman in the Region 26 final at 12:30. The winners will meet in a quarterfinal game at 3:00. We’ll broadcast Jeffers’ games on Lite 96.3 Houghton’s Breeze. Because of a technical issue, games will be streamed via 99.3TheLift.com and the Lift app.
- Division Three at Gladstone – Hancock plays Manistee in the Region 17 final at 10:00, and Traverse City Saint Francis faces Sanford Meridian in the Region 18 final at 12:30. The winners will meet in a quarterfinal game at 3:00. Hancock’s regional game will be broadcast on 97.7 The Wolf. If the Bulldogs reach the advance, we’ll broadcast their quarterfinal, with the station yet to be decided.

College Soccer
Two transfer students will join the Michigan Tech soccer team this fall. Addison Grogan is a forward from Sherwood, Arkansas. Melissa Riley is a midfielder from Lincoln, in the United Kingdom.
NBA
The Knicks visit the Spurs for game two of the NBA final tonight. New York won game one.
NHL
The Hurricanes slipped past the Golden Knights 4-3 last night to ties the Stanley Cup series at one win per team. Game three will be played tomorrow in Vegas.
There are multiple reports that Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has requested a trade.
Larkin grew up in the Detroit area, and played college hockey at the University of Michigan. He netted a career-best 34 goals this season, and added 33 assists. He also led Team USA to an Olympic gold medal.
He’s midway through an eight-year contract, and has reportedly become disillusioned after the team struggled late in the season, and again failed to reach the playoffs.
MLB
The Tigers had yesterday off, and entertain the Mariners tonight. Framber Valdez will start against Bryan Woo. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers dropped a 12-9 slugfest to the Giants yesterday. Eric Haase’s grand slam powered a six-run seventh inning that put San Francisco in control. Jackson Chourio hit two homers for Milwaukee, and David Hamilton knocked one out. Starter Coleman Crow was chased in the third inning, and was charged with six runs on nine hits.
The Brewers visit the Rockies tonight. Brandon Sproat will pitch against Ryan Feltner.
Reliever D.L. Hall left last night’s game after experiencing muscle pain in his left side. He’ll be evaluated today. Reliever Grant Anderson left the contest after he was hit on the right forearm by a batted ball. An X-ray revealed no structural damage, and he’ll also be evaluated today.
Twilight League
On the opening night of the Copper Country Twilight League baseball season…
- Houghton Building Supply-Stanton got past Garnet Garage 5-3 in 10 innings.
- Northern Driveline shaded Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker 6-5.
