Dry conditions continue to keep fire danger levels high across the region, but some relief could come today.
Officials report that a wildfire that broke out over the weekend in the Hiawatha National Forest in Alger County has been controlled.
The fire danger level across the peninsula is rated as extreme. Burn permits are not being issued.
Forecasters say showers could develop over the Keweenaw late today, with a chance of a thunderstorm this evening. Another weak system could bring additional showers tomorrow.
Rainfall totals are not expected to be significant, though, with most areas anticipating only one to two-tenths of an inch.
