A lot of wind blew into the Keweenaw Peninsula over the weekend, but not a lot of snow as predicted.
Late winter storms keeping people inside offer the chance to plan for the coming spring. This Wednesday, the Pewabic Street Community Gardens hosts the first in a series of workshops to help gardeners stay a step ahead of the short growing season to make the most out of this year’s harvest.
Participants do not need to have gardening experience before attending the six workshops, and the series is designed as a foundational program to provide local gardeners the best information and basic skills to help their gardens grow. Individuals joining the group will learn about building raised garden beds, propagating herbs and how to grow onions and garlic in northern climates.
Future workshops are planned for April 15, May 13, June 3, June 24 and July 22. There is limited space available in the program, and classes will require a fee that will provide various supplies.
