Jamie Thyrion’s co-workers at Incredible Bank recently recognized her passion for her community and honored her drive to support Main Street Calumet by awarding the organization $350 in her honor.
Main Street Calumet Executive Director Jared Howard says programs such as Dollars for Doers recognize how individuals can make a big impact in their communities, using skills and knowledge from their careers to support a nonprofit’s mission.
“We always look for our storytellers more than anything else to kind of tell the story of who they are, how they connect to Calumet and surrounding, and to help that story progress into the many things that we do as an organization,” Howard said. “So vitally important to know, to see and listen to what people are saying to understand where their skills are, to plug them in. Because if you plug into something you don’t like, you’re not going to do the work that your heart’s telling you to do.”
The Dollars for Doers campaign with Incredible Bank recognizes the work by the institution’s employees outside of their career. Howard says the Dollars for Doers award will help support plans to update the Calumet map brochure that shares activities, recreation and businesses for visitors to check out while in the area.
