Commissioners with the Marquette County Board honored long-time public servant Charles Bergdahl in a new resolution at the board’s Tuesday meeting.
Bergdahl served on the county board for District 10 from November 1992 to December 2012, one year of which he took on the role of board chairperson.
In addition, he has served on the Economic Development Council, the Lake Superior Community Partnership, the Marquette County Landbank, the Forestry Commission and the Resources Conservation and Development Committee.
On Bergdahl’s character, Commissioner Karen Alholm said, “I’ve had the pleasure, I worked with Chuck for about 10 years on both the Planning Commission and the Forest Commission and that was a treat to work with him.”
The resolution honored Bergdahl’s service including his role in the handling of the K.I. Sawyer base closure, landfill planning and the overhaul of the Marquette County Master Plan, which was adopted in 2021.
“Chuck’s colleagues on the Planning Commission have described him as a dedicated and thoughtful public servant,” read the resolution. “They appreciate his subtle sense of humor and his ‘quiet chuckle’ and his ability to recall many stories from ‘back in the day,’ typically told with a humorous twist. Chuck is regarded as a ‘good guy to have on your side.’ He will be missed by the many friends and colleagues he has served with.”
Board Chairperson Joe Derocha said the honor was “well deserved.”
The final paragraph of the resolution reads: “Therefore, be it resolved that The Marquette County Board of Commissioners recognizes Charles for his myriad contributions to the residents of Marquette County, and wishes him the very best as he ends his time on the Planning Commission. His legacy as a public servant is certainly something to be recognized.”
