The Rotary Clubs of Houghton and Hancock as well as the Interact Clubs of Houghton and Hancock High Schools will be hosting the World’s Largest Polio Walk for World Polio Day on Oct 24.
This coordinated event to help stop the global fight against polio aims to bring Rotarians from 11 states and two countries as well as their friends, families and anyone that wants to participate together. The walk is supposed to raise funds and bring awareness to the Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign, which has helped reduce worldwide cases of the deadly disease by 99.9% over the past 35 years, and maintain the momentum until polio is entirely eradicated.
The Houghton-Hancock walk will begin at the Rotary Pavilion at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park and continue across the bridge to the labyrinth in Hancock. Any people that are interested in participating are asked to be at the pavilion by 10:30 a.m. in order for the walk to begin promptly at 11:00.
