- Chassell defeated Bessemer 3-1 (25-16, 24-26, 25-11, 25-8). For Chassell, Elli Kuntze had 19 kills, 7 aces, and 22 digs. Oriana Olson had 9 kills, 4 aces and 1 block. Sylvia Aho had 30 assists and 10 aces, and Skye Isaacson had 8 aces.

Four new members will be inducted into the Lake Linden-Hubbell High School Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday.
The newest honorees are
- Edward “Jim” Baril, Class of 1945, a standout three-sport athlete in football, basketball and track, who helped lead the Lakes basketball team to three consecutive championship seasons.
- John Kus, Class of 1996, who earned 11 varsity letters in football, hockey and track, and helped the Lakes football program reach back-to-back State Championship games in 1994 and 1995.,
- Maureen Schick, who founded the Lakes volleyball program in 1989, and coached the team to 10 conference championships over more than 20 years.
- Gary Guisfredi, who coached the girls track team to 18 conference championships over 23 years. During his 16 years as athletic director, Lakes teams won more than 75 championships.
The 2026 class will be officially inducted Saturday morning at 9:30 in the Lake Linden-Hubbell High School Commons. A continental breakfast will be served as part of the induction ceremony. The four honorees will also be recognized at halftime of Saturday’s football game.

In the American League Divisional playoff series last evening…
- The White Sox shaded the Guardians 4-3. Chicago leads that series 2-0, and hosts game three tomorrow.
- The Rays stopped the Yankees 5-2. Tampa Bay takes a 2-0 lead in that series, with game three tomorrow in New York.
The National League series continue tonight…
- The Braves host the Dodgers at 6:00. Chris Sale will face Yoshinobu Yamamoto. That series is tied 1-1.
- The Brewers visit the Padres at 9:30. Dustin May will start against Nick Pivetta. Milwaukee has a 2-0 lead in that set.
NFL
The Falcons overwhelmed the Saints 45-24 last night.
NHL
The Red Wings host the Senators tonight.
NBA
The Pistons shaded the Suns 109-107 in their exhibition opener last night. Ebuka Okorie’s layup with six seconds remaining was the game-winner. Ron Holland II led Detroit with 14 points. Detroit’s next preseason contest is Saturday at Washington.
The Bucks lost their preseason opener to the Timberwolves 116-97 last evening. Ryan Rollins scored 15 points. The Bucks visit the Thunder tomorrow.
