The Tigers suffered an ugly 11-1 loss to the Twins last night. Jackson Jobe struggled through five innings, allowing five runs on six hits, including a pair of homers. Hao-Yu Lee’s solo home run was one of just five Detroit hits.
The Tigers have dropped 13 of their last 16, and visit the Twins again tonight. Troy Melton will start against Andrew Morris. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Tigers brought shortstop prospect John Peck up from Toledo yesterday. He made his major league debut late in the game, and did not get an at-bat. Corey Julks was sent back down to make room on the roster. Reliever Yilber Díaz was brought back up from the Mud Hens. Tanner Rainey was designated for assignment.
Riley Green is expected to rejoin the Tigers tonight, as baseball teams are allowed to expand their rosters for the final month of the season. He’s missed a couple of weeks with a strained hamstring.
The Brewers endured an even uglier 17-3 loss to the Cubs. Chicago blasted a franchise-record nine home runs. Five came off starter Kyle Harrison, who was chased in the fourth inning, and was charged with nine runs. The Cubs’ final six runs and three homers came in the eighth and ninth, with Milwaukee first baseman Andrew Vaughn on the mound.
The Brewers visit the Cubs again tonight. Robert Gasser will pitch against Matthew Boyd.
Reliever Bryse Wilson has landed on the injured list with back problems. Reliever Abner Uribe was activated off the injured list.
Pitcher JoJo Romero is expected to be activated as the Brewers expand their roster today. He’s recovering from an appendectomy.
