The Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress provides caregivers the tools they need to care for people. In October, UPCAP will launch a six-week caregiving series titled “Powerful Tools for Caregivers.”
The program runs October 15 through November 19, with weekly online workshops bringing caregivers together from across the region for 90-minute sessions. During the six weeks, caregivers will learn about reducing stress, guilt, anger and other emotions related to caring for elderly and disabled individuals.
The program teaches caregivers how to set realistic goals for themselves and patients, along with strategies for effective communication—even when dementia or other memory-affecting conditions complicate interactions.
“Powerful Tools for Caregivers” offers Upper Peninsula caregivers a chance to learn ways to care for themselves so they can show up as the best caregivers possible for seniors and disabled residents in the region. The program shows family caregivers and non-professionals how to adjust and adapt to changes with patients.
Those interested in learning more about the series can find details online. Registration closes September 25. Learn more about other aging-related and caregiving programs with UPCAP online.
