Donations have been rolling into the Salvation Army’s Bread of Life Center in Hancock since the start of August, fueling the Keweenaw Peninsula Backpack Program’s mission to equip students for the school year.
The Copper Country Angel Mission leads the backpack program with collaborative support from the Salvation Army. The Bread of Life Center offers a large space to organize items, collect regional donations and provide a site for students to pick up their school supplies.
Program organizers need at least 30 volunteers today to help organize items and stuff backpacks. The program will also need community assistance at distribution sites Friday and Saturday.
