MLB
The Tigers’ drive toward the .500 mark stumbled a bit last night with a 6-4 loss to the Guardians. Framber Valdez pitched into the sixth, gave up four runs, and took the loss, but it was the two runs surrendered by Enmanuel De Jesus in the seventh that sealed the win for Cleveland. Gleyber Torres homered, and Spencer Torkelson drove in two with a double.
The Tigers host the Guardians again this afternoon. Keider Montero will start against Parker Messick. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Riley Greene has been added to the injured list, after straining a hamstring in Tuesday’s game. Corey Julks was brought up from Toledo to fill in. With De Jesus’ return from paternity leave, Yilber Diaz was sent back down to the Mud Hens. Detroit also designated pitcher Troy Watson for assignment.
Brant Hurter could be back with Detroit soon. He tossed a scoreless inning last night in his second rehab appearance with the Mud Hens. Hurter has been out since late May with back problems.
Luis Campusano’s single off Antonio Senzatela in the bottom of the 11th gave the Padres a 4-3 victory over the Brewers yesterday. San Diego scored twice to overcome the one-run lead Milwaukee had taken on a Gary Sánchez RBI double in the top of the frame. It also wiped out a great start by Dustin May, who gave up a run on four hits over seven innings. Sánchez homered earlier in the contest.
The Brewers have lost three in a row, and visit the Dodgers tonight. Shane Drohan will pitch against Roki Sasaki.
