The City of Houghton has announced the development of a new business & creative incubator space, to be located at the building at the intersection of Shelden Ave. and Dodge St., the former location of the Fifth and Elm coffee shop; the purpose of this space is to allow entrepreneurs, artists, makers, low/no-tech, small retail and creative businesses to maintain a presence in the heart of downtown Houghton.
Set to open in 2028, the incubator includes a program that will help small businesses succeed in the local market, with business coaching and other resources available to those interested. The building itself will include various accessibility elements such as a staircase and public elevator that will connect Shelden Ave. with Lakeshore Drive. In addition, a year-round public restroom will be available for use 24 hours a day.
For businesses or entrepreneurs that are interested in the program, send an inquiry to the City of Houghton, foundĀ here or call 482-7700.
