MLB
Troy Melton tossed seven shutout innings, as the Tigers smothered the Mariners 8-0 last night. Melton allowed just three hits. Riley Greene, Gleyber Torres and Dillon Dingler homered. Greene, Colt Keith and Zach McInstry each had three hits.
The Tigers continue that series at Seattle tonight. With Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize gone, Drew Anderson will open for Detroit against Bryan Woo. Coverage will begin at 9:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
To fill the open roster spot created by the Mize trade, Yilber Díaz was brought up from Toledo.
Jackson Jobe appears to be ready to join the Tigers’ rotation. After more than a year rehabbing from Tommy John ligament replacement surgery, he has joined the team in Seattle. He’s expected to be activated off the injured list this weekend in San Francisco.
The Brewers became the first team in the majors to reach 70 wins this season, with a 4-2 victory over the Pirates last evening. Logan Henderson turned in six strong innings, allowing both Pittsburgh runs, and striking out eight. Jackson Chourio had three hits including a home run. Andrew Vaughn also hit one out.
The Brewers host the Pirates again tonight. Newcomer Dustin May will start against Braxton Ashcraft.
To open roster slots for May and Antonio Senzatela, Garrett Stallings and Brandon Sproat were sent down to Nashville.
