Houghton County’s early voting center has seen lower-than-expected turnout through day three.
County Clerk Jennifer Kelly shared the center has seen 91 voters stop in during the nine-day early voting period so far. Fewer than when the center was first opened at the November 2024 election. Kelly noted that election’s early voting period saw a line out the door when the center was in Houghton, on the second floor of the City Center Building.
Despite the move to a more accessible space, Kelly feels the center has not been used to its full potential and has not made a difference in foot traffic polling places see on election days.
To vote at the early voting center before it closes, voters will need to have already registered as a voter in Houghton County and bring a photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport or CPL card. Anyone eligible but not yet registered to vote in Houghton County will need to complete paperwork with their township or city clerk.
The Houghton County Early Voting Center will remain open until August 2nd. The HoCo Arena Early Voting Center opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. Find more details for voting in the August 2026 election below.
