Breakwater Federal Credit Union awards scholarships and donates $2,500 during its annual members meeting.
Earlier in the week, Breakwater Federal Credit Union held its 72nd annual membership meeting. The event brought the institution’s membership together for a vote on new board of directors candidates, as well as to disperse student scholarships.
In 2026, Breakwater announced plans to expand its scholarship opportunities with the inclusion of an award set aside specifically for a student who will be the first in their family to attend a college or university.
This year’s scholarship award winners include Daniel Xie, Kai Griffith and Brayden Goudge. All will graduate from Houghton High School this spring.
In addition to awarding Breakwater’s 2026 student scholarships, the credit union announced a donation to the Copper Shores Bridges program. The $2,500 donation supports Bridges’ continued mission of providing financial education to residents living in the Copper Country.
Bridges hosts multiple programs throughout the year and moves around Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties to serve residents where they live.
