The Keweenaw Peninsula’s own hockey season might have wrapped up following the Gibson Cup series last week. But there is one more game for the community to come out and enjoy.
In the last few years, the Michigan Upper Peninsula Veterans Hockey Club and the Minnesota Warriors have met in Houghton as a sort of neutral ground to compete and raise funds for veterans causes.
The annual veterans hockey game in 2026 will raise funds to support the Tunnels to Towers Foundation. Tunnels to Towers Foundation is an organization that provides direct housing and financial support to gold star families, injured veterans and first responders facing serious hardship.
The two teams will meet in Houghton on April 18 at the Dee Stadium. This year organizers have set a goal to raise $10,000 during the hockey game.
Already the Copper Country’s community has helped the teams make the trip. The Keweenaw Waters Resort will offer the veterans space to sleep near downtown. LevelUP has also chosen to help support the T2T at the Dee hockey game by providing the t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, and apparel for the weekend.
Tickets for the event will cost $5. Military veterans, first responders and kids under 12 can attend the hockey game for free. Those interested in supporting the game, or want to learn about ways to get involved as a sponsor or donor can contact John French, jfrench@up.net. More details can be found online. Puck drop on April 18th will have the game start at 7 pm.
