As you grow older, family members start to reveal the secrets of the family. And some of those most cherished secrets protect long-held recipes for Sunday dinner around the family table, even if grandma found the “secret” on the back of a Betty Crocker box.
In February, the Finnish American Folk School will open an exhibit inside the Finlandia Art Gallery entitled “Salaiset Ruokaohjeet: Secret Recipes.” The exhibit highlights work by Emily Lanctot, who uncovered family recipes she didn’t know existed, inspiring several painted works.
She says the artwork hopes to inspire others in the community to gather and share family recipes, and rather than keeping that one ingredient under wraps, share the joy of food that connects everyone.
The “Salaiset Ruokaohjeet: Secret Recipes” exhibit will open on February 5 at the Finnish American Heritage Center inside the art gallery. A reception for the gallery will open the exhibit next Thursday at 7 p.m., with statements from Lanctot at 7:20 p.m. The gallery will remain on display until March 5.
