Breakwater Federal Credit Union announces details of a scholarship program in 2026.
One of the Copper Country’s credit unions, Breakwater has made an effort to become a more present part of the community through a variety of programs geared toward youth. In 2026, Breakwater will award $1,500 scholarships to students planning to attend a college, university, vocational or trade school during 2026 and 2027.
Two of the scholarships available to graduating seniors have been set aside to support first-generation college students taking a step toward higher education for their family. The President and CEO of Breakwater Federal Credit Union Paula Megowen says investing in members’ futures is at the heart of the credit union’s mission, and the financial institution is proud to set aside a specialized award for first-generation college-bound students.
Students can become eligible for a $1,500 scholarship award by becoming a member of the credit union and completing an essay. The credit union will also ask students to present two reference letters, one from a staff member of their school and another from a community member they know well.
The scholarship essay, letters of recommendation and application are due by March 27. The Breakwater scholarship committee will notify recipients during April. Those interested in learning more about the Breakwater FCU scholarship program can find more details online.
