L’Anse completes the first step toward resolving flooding issues at the Secret Creek culvert. L’Anse Village recently received approval from the Michigan Department of Transportation Infrastructure bank agreement. Village manager Bob LaFave says that before work can start several other documents will need approval.
The state infrastructure bank program will allow us to take those incurred expenses and charge a 0% interest towards the allocated amount in the state infrastructure bank agreement. And then we can get reimbursed by the federal government and repay the state once that shows up. But it’s a federal program that goes through the tribe too, so there’s going to be a few more parts here we’ll be coming out within the upcoming months as we get closer to letting this project, but I know it was what, maybe a year or two ago now when that culvert finally started giving us trouble out there and the wheels moved slow on some of this, but this is an important piece to allow us to cash flow this and get this project underway. – Bob LaFave, Village Manager, Village of L’Anse
LaFave added that when all is said and done the village will receive full reimbursement for the project. L’Anse hopes to begin work to resolve the secret creek culvert issue within the next year. Work will start depending on how quickly the village can complete other important documents. However, the infrastructure bank agreement with MDOT is an important first step to begin engineering design. Lanse will cancel the second meeting of the month planned for December 23rd and will return to council chambers after the new year.
