Upper Peninsula communities are making progress to become more accessible.
During the recent Upper Peninsula Accessibility Summit held on Michigan Technological University’s campus, the conference awarded several projects that created more accessibility for disabled residents. The awards are the first dispersed by the summit. Awards included the most accessible organization, business, project, individual, and government categories.
Michigan Tech’s student development complex earned its first UPAS award for most accessible organization.
The city of Houghton earned the first government award for its progress in developing an accessible waterfront downtown.
The most accessible individual was awarded to Anne Bengry for her work championing accessibility, inclusivity, and community impact that helps to open doors for individuals with diverse needs.
